The Ashen Effigy

Join the Coven to keep this in your own Book of Shadows
An effigy of paper carries your anger and your wish for consequence into the fire, and what is left is ash. The oldest shape a reckoning can take: you name what was done, you let the figure burn, and you hand the rest back to the person who earned it.
Level Intermediate
Time 25 minutes, plus the burning
Moon Any night; the new or waning moon is favoured
What You Will Need
A paper effigy
A rough human shape cut from paper, with the person's name written on it. A printed photograph works if you have one, but a shape you cut yourself holds the working better, because the cutting is already part of it.
A black candle
A taper or a pillar. Black for the matter being closed rather than for malice.
A fireproof bowl or cauldron
Metal, stone or thick ceramic, wide enough that the paper can curl without reaching the rim. Set it on a surface that does not care.
Water within reach
Not part of the rite. Part of doing the rite twice.
Moon Phase & Timing
This is a working of release rather than of drawing, so the waning half of the month suits it best.
Waning Moon: The usual time. Your anger leaves as the light leaves, which is the shape the working is asking for.
New Moon: For a matter you want finished rather than merely set down. The dark takes the whole of it and gives nothing back.
Any night you need it: Anger does not keep to the calendar. A working done on the night it is needed beats one timed perfectly and never done.
