Dark Arts
The Dread of Chemosh
Join the Coven to keep this in your own Book of Shadows
A night petition to Chemosh, the old god of Moab, for nerve in a conflict you did not choose and for rivals to reckon with the weight of what they are doing. Candles, an offering, and the names folded away in a vessel.
What You Will Need
Two or more black candles
Set to either side of the image. Black for the seriousness of the petition rather than for malice.
An image or symbol of Chemosh
A printed image, a drawn sigil, or a plain dark stone you have set aside for him. He has no settled iconography, and something you made yourself is better than something you found on a stock site.
An offering
Barley, dark bread, wine, or incense. Set out for him and left out; nothing on this plate comes back to your table.
Paper and a pen
For the names of those involved in the conflict. Written once, folded three times, away from you.
A fireproof vessel
Metal or heavy ceramic. The folded paper sits in it, and may be burned in it at the end if you choose to.
Moon Phase & Timing
This is a rite of the hour. Night is the requirement; the moon only colours it.
Night: After full dark, with the house quiet. The rite does not work at a kitchen table at four in the afternoon and will not pretend otherwise.
Waning Moon: For a conflict you want to see shrink and end.
Tuesday: Mars's day, which rules conflict, nerve and holding a line. A good match if you want the petition to be about standing rather than about ending.
