The Hounds Beyond the Last Door

A grave severing rite, worked at the dark of the moon, that asks Hecate to close the road by which one person reaches you and to set her hounds at the boundary. It is the heaviest working in this collection, and it is meant for the hold a person has, never for the person.
What You Will Need
Three black candles
Set around the chalice as the three points of a triangle. Three is Hecate's number and the arrangement is not decorative.
A chalice of moon water
Water left out under a previous full or dark moon. It stands in the middle of the three candles as the still centre of the rite. Nothing in this chalice is ever taken into the body - it is poured out onto the earth at the end.
Offerings for Hecate
Garlic, eggs, dark bread, honey, or incense. Set out at the start and left out. They go to the earth or a crossroads afterwards and nothing from them returns indoors.
The name of what you are ending
Decided before you begin, and said out loud in step two. The hold, the contact, the access - named precisely. Write it down beforehand if you are worried about losing your nerve mid-rite.
A quiet hour and a closed door
This rite is worked alone and it is not interruptible. Phone off, not on silent.
Moon Phase & Timing
This is the one working in this collection whose timing is a requirement rather than a preference.
Dark of the Moon: The night of the rite. Hecate's own night, and the only one on which a severance of this weight should be attempted.
Midnight: Traditional and useful: the hour is already a threshold, which is the shape of the whole working.
Not on a waxing moon: A rising moon works against the thing you are asking for and will make the rite feel like pushing a door that opens the other way.
