The Offering Beneath the Ember
Join the Coven to keep this in your own Book of Shadows
A formal offering of meat and fire to an infernal deity, made at nightfall and given over entirely to the coals. Nothing is shared and nothing comes back to the table: the whole of it chars, cools, and goes into the ground.
What You Will Need
A small portion of raw meat
A single cut, bought for this and nothing else. It is given whole to the fire and no part of it returns indoors.
A fire pit, grill or brazier
Somewhere a real fire can be lit safely and burned all the way down. A barbecue works. A candle does not - this rite needs coals.
Matches or a lighter, and dry fuel
Wood or charcoal. Enough to build a modest fire and let it settle rather than one that roars and dies.
A lidded container for the cooled remains
A tin, a jar, an old pot. For carrying what is left to wherever you will put it in the earth.
The name of the deity you are addressing
Decided beforehand, written down if that helps. The words leave a space for it and that space should not be filled on the night by whoever comes to mind first.
Moon Phase & Timing
This is a rite of the hour rather than of the month. Nightfall is when it is made.
Nightfall: Light the fire as the last of the light goes, so the coals come good in full dark. This is the timing the rite actually turns on.
New Moon: Traditional for infernal work and pleasantly dark for it, but not required.
Not in high wind: A practical matter that outranks every astrological one. An offering fire you cannot control is not an offering.
