Cleansing & Banishing
The Unbinding of What Was Spoken
Join the Coven to keep this in your own Book of Shadows
A rite for lifting a curse, hex or ill wish you believe has settled on you or on somebody you love. Salt, water, three folds and three sayings: the knot is loosened rather than cut, and nothing is sent back the way it came.
What You Will Need
A sheet of plain paper and a pen
For the name of the person the working is for. Plain paper, and a pen rather than pencil, so the ink will run when it meets the water.
Coarse salt
A good pinch. Table salt is fine. Salt is the oldest loosener there is and the only ingredient here that cannot be substituted.
A bowl of cool water
Any bowl deep enough to lay a folded paper flat in. Tap water. Nothing stands in a window for this one.
Somewhere to pour the water out
A drain, a gutter, the roots of a tree you do not love. Decided before you begin, so you are not carrying a bowl around at the end of a rite looking for a destination.
Moon Phase & Timing
An unbinding is a letting-go, so the waning moon is its natural season - but a hex does not wait for the calendar and neither should this.
Waning Moon: The usual time, and the easiest. As the light withdraws, so does the hold.
Dark of the Moon: The strongest night for a bond that has been in place a long while, or one you have tried to lift before.
Tonight: If somebody is suffering under something now, now is the right time. Repeat it on the next waning moon if you want the timing as well.
