The Veil of Anubis

Join the Coven to keep this in your own Book of Shadows
A solemn night rite asking Anubis, who weighs the heart and guards the gate, to hold a harmful bond before the scales and draw its power away. What belongs to the other person goes back to them; what is yours stays yours.
Level Advanced
Time An hour, alone
Moon Any. Night and solitude are the requirements
What You Will Need
An image of Anubis
A print, a drawing, a small figure - the jackal-headed guardian, or the jackal alone. Set behind the candle so the light falls on it rather than on you.
A black candle
Lit at the start and snuffed by hand at the end. One candle only; this rite is deliberately spare.
Something that stands for the person
A photograph, a letter, an object of theirs, or their name written out. It is wrapped and kept, so choose something you are content to put away for a while.
A strip of black cloth
Long enough to wrap the object three times round. Torn rather than cut, if you want the old form of it.
A private place for the bundle
Somewhere associated with endings - a box of things from a closed chapter, a drawer you keep shut. Decided before you begin.
Moon Phase & Timing
The hour and the solitude carry this rite. The moon is a secondary consideration.
Night, alone: The requirement. This is not a rite to work with somebody in the next room who might come in.
Waning Moon: For a bond you want to see shrink and release over the following weeks.
Dark of the Moon: For a bond that has survived earlier attempts to end it.
